The Frugal Car Owner came about because I felt there was a need to help the average car and truck owner to do their own repairs to their own vehicles if they wanted to. Many repairs can be achieved by an owner with basic tools and basic knowledge.

With the right knowledge, though, maybe a decision is made to get the thing into the repair shop to get 'professional' attention. No shame to admit you may be in over your head. When that time comes, knowledge of what may be involved in a repair can help prevent you from paying too much or be just plain victimized by an unscrupulous shop operator. We have all heard the stories. It's no fun being the stories.

My name is Eric Alexander. I am an ASE Certified Master Automobile Technician with a bit over 20 years in the Automotive Repair Industry, the last 7 of which have been actively running my own independent repair shop. I have decided to document some of the more mystical, yet easy to do repairs that a car owner could do in his or her own drive or garage, given the ambition to tackle the job.

The information on this site is to only help you in determining whether a repair is within your ability or whether you should seek professional help. You have to be the judge of your own ability. All I provide is knowledge.
