Dash Vents Blowing Less
September 5, 2008 by Eric
Have you noticed lately that the air coming from your vents just doesn't seem to be as strong as it used to be? Many of today's newer vehicles and many older high-end vehicles have cabin air filters to filter the outside air before it enters the cabin area.
Under normal driving conditions these filters can become clogged and greatly restrict the amount of air able to enter the inside of your car. If you live in a very dusty area this filter can clog very rapidly.
Your owner's manual will give you the location of the filter, if equipped. It is usually located under the dash on the passenger side or in the engine compartment toward the passenger side firewall. Simply remove the cover, carefully pull out the old filter, and insert the new one, and reinstall the cover.
If it's very dirty you should notice the increased air flow. Please, though, resist the temptation to just throw the filter in the trash and not replace it. It not only helps improve the breathing air quality, but also helps keep your car cleaner. You breathe better, the car retains more value. Amazing.

Eric, thanks for the tip. My suburban was just about not putting anything out of the vents. I found the door to get at it under the passenger side dash. It had leaves, and dirt and maybe a mouse nest on it. A new one did the trick.
As dirty as that was I don’t think I would be tempted to just leave it out.
Good work.
